City of Pasadena Tests Safety Improvements on Allen Avenue

Published on Sunday, June 16, 2024 | 5:40 am

Pasadena’s Department of Transportation is currently testing safety and beautification improvements along Allen Avenue between Colorado Blvd. and Villa Street, to create a safer and more enjoyable environment for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The project, known as Activate Allen Avenue, includes enhanced crosswalks, curb extensions at street corners, and new bicycle lanes.

As part of the Quick Build project, the City has implemented various temporary materials, such as traffic marking paint, flexible delineators, and signage, to test the effectiveness of the proposed improvements. The project aims to re-envision Allen Avenue, promote active mobility, improve safety and economic vitality for local businesses, create a more welcoming street for all modes of transportation, and test improvements included in the Allen Station Gold Line Safety Enhancements Plan.

The City of Pasadena, in partnership with the Southern California Association of Governments’ Go Human Program, is seeking community feedback on the temporary improvements. A community meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Jefferson Branch Library, at 1500 E. Villa Street, where residents can learn about the improvements and provide their input.

Previously, on Feb. 29, members of the Community Advisory Committee participated in a guided walking tour along Allen Avenue to showcase and collect feedback on the recently installed Quick Build elements.

Pending the findings of the Quick Build project and community feedback, the city may implement the project with long-term materials.

More information about the Activate Allen Avenue project, including the tentative project timeline, can be found on:

Residents who are unable to attend the community meeting are encouraged to submit their feedback online.
