City Staff to Hearing Officer: Der Wolfskopf in Old Pasadena Satisfies 35+ City Required Conditions

Pasadena’s hearing officer will hear a report Wednesday detailing City staff’s conclusion that Der Wolfskopf, a bar and restaurant in Old Pasadena with a troubled history, has adequately met the conditions that have been required by the City over the past year.

Der Wolfskopf, at 72 North Fair Oaks Ave., was ordered to comply with a daunting list of more than three dozen conditions in March 2022 after the City threatened to revoke its use permit. The conditions included reducing noise, improving security, keeping its front doors closed when loud music was playing, among numerous others.

City staff will officially present its analysis, compliance report and recommendations about the “resto-bar” to Pasadena’s Hearing Officer Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in the City’s Permit Center Hearing Room, 175 North Garfield Avenue.

The lengthy report said Der Wolfskopf violated one of the conditions on April 3, 2022, but there have been no other complaints or calls related to code compliance or police activity over the past six months.

The report provides an overview of multiple operational conditions and describes the business’s compliance with each of them during a site visit conducted on March 13, 2023.

City staff recommended that the business operator be required to remove a television and sound speakers from the basement to be in compliance with a required condition.

The Hearing Officer should approve modifications to forward the conditions and cancel one of the conditions in acknowledgment of the business’s compliance, the City staff recommended.

If the hearing officer approves the recommendations, Der Wolfskopf would be able to continue operating without revocation of its permit if it complies.
