The City of Pasadena announced it will open the Washington Park Community House on Saturday, Jan. 13, from 10 a.m. to noon at 700 E. Washington Blvd.
The new facility, approximately 2,000 square feet in size, will serve as a hub for various events and activities.
It features a multi-purpose room, kitchenette, gender-neutral restroom, storage room, accessible office for recreation staff, Wi-Fi, and outdoor gathering space. The park also has new outdoor restrooms.
The Pasadena City Council approved the plan for the Washington Park Community House project in November 2004. At that time, it was outlined to be located adjacent to the parking lot on Washington Blvd., and was designed to include a multi-purpose room, space for recreation staff, and park storage. The project also included the construction of new public restrooms to replace the existing restroom building.
The goals were multifaceted: it was to be a multipurpose and flexible space that would serve as a hub for community gatherings, with the architectural style to reflect the history and culture of the community. Modern technology was to be incorporated into the facility, and the design aimed for a seamless flow between the indoor space and the outdoor environment, connecting the building to the landscape.
Saturday’s grand opening will begin with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., attended by community leaders, local officials, and distinguished guests.
Attendees will then have the opportunity to tour the new Community House and participate in program demonstrations, information booths, live music, arts and crafts, and more.
