The Colleges of Law will move its Hybrid J.D. program from Ventura to Pasadena this fall and has named Brandy Price as dean.

The program’s monthly 12-hour in-person residency sessions will take place at Pacific Oaks College’s LEED Gold-certified campus at 45 Eureka Street. The relocation expands access to legal education in the San Gabriel Valley.

The Colleges of Law, Ventura is a private, nonprofit law school established in 1969 and accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission as well as the Committee of Bar Examiners of the State Bar of California. The school is especially regarded for its accessibility, affordability, diversity, and emphasis on real-world legal skills.

Price became dean and chief academic officer Sept. 4, The Independent reported Sept. 14.

“I am honored to serve as dean and CAO of The Colleges of Law,” Price said. “I look forward to building on our tradition of preparing practice-ready lawyers while advancing innovative, accessible legal education.”

The Hybrid J.D. program mixes 70 percent online coursework with 30 percent in-person instruction. Students complete 84 credits over 40 months and finish with a capstone project.

The school’s five-year California bar passage rate stands at 68.1 percent, above the state’s required 40 percent minimum.

Matthew Nehmer, president of The Colleges of Law, praised Price’s appointment.

“Dean Price is a trusted and proven leader whose deep understanding of our students, faculty, and programs makes her uniquely qualified to lead The Colleges of Law’s academic enterprise,” Nehmer said.

Board Chair Farfalla Borah said the school interviewed candidates nationwide before selecting Price.

“We interviewed numerous candidates from across the country. In the end, Brandy stood out as a clear favorite. She’s ready to make an immediate impact on the college and the success of our students. I can’t wait to see where she and Nehmer take The Colleges of Law next,” Borah said.

The program holds accreditation from the WASC Senior College and University Commission and registration with the State Bar of California. The school designed the program for working adults and nontraditional students, offering asynchronous online coursework and monthly weekend residencies.

Pacific Oaks College’s Pasadena campus opens Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
