After voting to place a parcel tax on the November ballot, City Council members will have a week off.
Council is dark this week and will return with two public hearings next week.
Elected officials on Aug. 17 will consider designating two historic neighborhoods as Landmark Districts, a move that would provide additional preservation protections for properties along Arboleda Drive and Mesita Road.
The public hearings also include proposed zoning map amendments establishing the Arboleda Drive and Mesita Road Landmark Overlay Zoning Districts.
A Landmark District designation recognizes a neighborhood’s historic and architectural significance while subjecting exterior alterations, demolitions and new construction visible from the public right-of-way to the city’s historic preservation review process.
The accompanying landmark overlay zoning districts incorporate those preservation standards into the city’s zoning map, making the regulations enforceable.
If approved, the designations would add Arboleda Drive and Mesita Road to Pasadena’s growing network of protected historic neighborhoods.
City officials say the districts are intended to preserve the architectural character and historical integrity of the neighborhoods while providing a framework for managing future changes in a manner consistent with their historic significance.
