Pasadena’s Department of Human Resources is recommending approval of a contract with St. George’s Medical Clinic, a local medical services provider, for pre-employment medical review and physical examinations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) mandated physicals and medical monitoring, occupational therapy, drug screening and TB testing for new applicants for jobs in various City departments and offices.
Under the proposed contract, St. George’s Medical Clinic, located at 1750 E Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, will conduct medical screening for all classifications of employment, including general office jobs, physical labor, Public Health positions, and Police Officer and Firefighter positions in the City throughout the contract period, which begins on July 1 if the contract is approved.
The Pasadena City Council will deliberate on the proposal Monday at its weekly meeting, which takes place via video-conference or teleconference. The meeting begins at 2 p.m.
In a report for the City Council, the Human Resources Department said the contract will be up to three years or at a cost of $600,000, whichever occurs first. The report added the City has spent $439,000 since 2016 on medical services that St. George’s Medical Clinic provides as the current medical services provider for the City.
The contract may be extended through two optional one-year periods subject to approval by the City Manager, the report said.
The Human Resources Department issued a Request for Proposals for Medical Services on May 18, 2020, and only St. George’s submitted a proposal.
“Although St. George’s Medical Clinic was the only proposer, the Human Resources Department is comfortable with awarding the contract to them because they are a local Pasadena vendor, small/micro business certified and have demonstrated that they can provide the full range of services requested,” the report said. “The location is convenient for candidates and employees who are sent for annual physicals and OSHA testing.”
