The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to hold a public hearing Tuesday, July 28, 2026, on whether to extend for another year the interim ordinance that eased development restrictions in unincorporated areas affected by the Eaton Fire, including Altadena.

The proposal would extend Interim Ordinance No. 2025-0034U to August 22, 2027. The ordinance’s current authorization expires August 22, 2026, less than four weeks after the hearing.

That deadline is what gives the item its urgency for Altadena property owners. The Eaton Fire Disaster Interim Ordinance is the measure that eased development restrictions and allowed for disaster recovery in unincorporated areas affected by the fire, including reconstruction and permitting for properties that suffered irreparable damage or destruction, according to the Board’s agenda.

The ordinance amended Title 22 — Planning and Zoning of the Los Angeles County Code. It provided flexibility for disaster rebuild projects, allowed temporary uses that support disaster recovery, and established a Disaster Recovery Permit for rebuild projects. That permit carries reduced fees and a streamlined procedure for modifying development standards, the agenda states.

The measure requires four votes rather than a simple majority. The Board has five members, so four of the five must vote in favor for the extension to take effect.

The item is designated Supervisorial District 5, which Barger represents.

The Supervisors’ meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 28 in Board Hearing Room 381B at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration.

Residents who wish to address the Board may connect starting at 9 a.m. Speakers may register before or during the meeting through the Webex online system at bos.lacounty.gov and join by computer or device, or may call 213-306-3065 and enter participant access code 2539 698 2165 and meeting password 2672026.

The meeting is scheduled to be televised Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 11 p.m. on KLCS.
