Seeking the revenge that cannot really come, the San Francisco Giants smacked the Dodgers 5-0, on a 2-hitter by pitcher Mike Leake. The win comes after the Dodgers eliminated the Giants from the playoffs for this year.

Dodger pitcher Mike Bolsinger lasted only three innings, his second-shortest start ever.

The Giants scattered six hits, and showed some timely (ish) field and hitting on a night when they didn’t need to. The Giants are now 8-1 against the Dodgers at home, and tonight’s game is their fourth shutout.

The two teams will meet tomorrow afternoon, and then the Dodgers, who have now lost nine of their last twelve games,  will return home to LA to face the San Diego Padres for the last home series of the season,

The Dodgers will face the Mew York Mets in the first round of the playoffs, as the two teams now battle for the best season record. The Mets also lost tonight, holding a one-game lead for now.

Here’s how we blogged and previewed tonight’s game:

It’s the after-party before the Big Party. The Dodgers eliminated the Giants, 8-0, and won the National League West division for the third time in a row last night, and now it’s a battle for the better season record against the Mets.
