The Rotary Club of Pasadena will host Dr. Deborah Ferrington, Chief Scientific Officer at Doheny Eye Institute, as guest speaker at its upcoming lunch meeting on Wednesday, July 31. The event will take place at the University Club of Pasadena, located at 175 N. Oakland Avenue.
Ferrington will speak on the topic, “Healthy Summer Series: Doheny Eye Institute’s Visionary Research,” and is expected to highlight the institute’s cutting-edge work in vision science.
Doheny Eye Institute, now located in Pasadena, has been at the forefront of ophthalmic research for over 75 years. The institute’s researchers are exploring innovative approaches to treating eye conditions, including glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. Their work encompasses seeking new methods to address fluid drainage blockages in glaucoma and developing techniques for retinal cell replacement.
Ferrington brings a wealth of experience to her role at Doheny. Her background includes a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas and positions at the University of Minnesota, where she served as Director of Research and Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Neurosciences from 1999 to 2022.
Ferrington is also active in various professional organizations, serving on the Scientific Advisory Board of Vinci Pharmaceutics and holding memberships in the Association of University Professors in Ophthalmology and the International Society for Eye Research.
Doheny Eye Institute has maintained a top-10 ranking among ophthalmology programs in the U.S. News & World Report for over two decades. This recognition is attributed to the institute’s advanced research capabilities and clinical expertise in vision care.
Doheny Eye Institute is now affiliated with the UCLA Stein Eye Institute. The collaboration aims to offer the best in vision research and education.
Members of the public may attend; there is a $45 charge for the meal. RSVP prior to Monday, July 29 by emailing office@pasadenarotary.com or calling (626) 683-8243.
