[Updated July 9, 2013 | 7:45 a.m.] Firefighters Tuesday morning put out a well-involved carport fire that spread to a back house causing a total of $500,000 worth of damage, a fire official said.
Firefighters dispatched to the 100 block of Chester Avenue about 5:30 a.m. and had the fire out within 20 minutes of their arrival, said Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department.
Four vehicles were damaged as a result of the fire and two other vehicles sustained significant damage due to the heat coming from the fire, Derderian said. Two windows to the back were blown out as a result of the fire.
The carport was totaled and the attached back house is uninhabitable. One adult male was displaced from the back house and an adult couple in the front house escaped without injury, she said.
Firefighters are expected to be at the scene for at least one hour. The fire caused $400,000 to the structure and $100,000 to its contents. A cause of the fire was under investigation.
