East West Bank, Pasadena’s Largest Financial Institution, Named Top Performing U.S. Bank for Third Straight Year

East West Bancorp, Inc., parent company of Pasadena-headquartered East West Bank, has been ranked the No. 1 performing bank in the United States for the third consecutive year in Bank Director’s 2025 RankingBanking study. The recognition places East West at the top of the $50 billion and above asset category, marking its fourth No. 1 ranking in five years.

The study, released by the industry publication Bank Director, evaluated the 300 largest publicly traded banks nationwide using December 31, 2024 data. East West Bancorp led in four key performance metrics: return on assets, return on equity, tangible common equity, and non-performing assets. The company was also cited as the most highly capitalized bank in its category, with the highest level of tangible capital.

East West Bank, which operates its corporate headquarters in Pasadena, is the largest independent bank based in Southern California. It maintains more than 110 locations across the U.S. and Asia, including branches throughout California.

Bank Director has conducted the annual RankingBanking study since 2021. East West Bancorp previously earned top honors in 2021, 2023, and 2024, and was designated “Best Board” in 2022.
