Club América, Club Deportivo Guadalajara, and PRIMETIME Sports officially announced Monday that the long-awaited Clásico de México will arrive at the iconic Rose Bowl Stadium on October 15th to wrap up Hispanic Heritage Month.
Rose Bowl officials said it is expected to be the largest Mexican-themed celebration held this year in the United States.
Mexico’s biggest rivalry began almost 65 years ago. It pits Mexico City’s Club América against Chivas de Guadalajara.
The last time this match was held in Los Angeles was in 2018 at the LA Coliseum under the name Súper Clásico, and it attracted over 60,000 fans to the downtown venue.
This game is more than a soccer game because it encompasses cultural and entertainment events leading up to match day, as well as a day-long Fan Fest on game day with live music, traditional food, legendary players from both Clubs, mascots, and more.
Santiago Baños, Sports President of Club América, Fernando Hierro, Sports Director of Chivas de Guadalajara, and City of Pasadena Councilmember Steve Madison were present Monday at the Rose Bowl for the announcement that included press, celebrities, and special guests.
The Rose Bowl, America’s Stadium, has played a key role in the growth of soccer in the United States as it played host to the men’s FIFA World Cup Final in 1994 and the women’s FIFA World Cup final in 1999. This stadium has also become the unofficial home away from home for the Mexican National Team.
