Pasadena Celebrates 139th Birthday with Free Community Festival

Museum of History hosts afternoon of art, music and cake for all ages

Pasadena will mark its 139th birthday with a free community celebration featuring art activities, live music and cake at the Pasadena Museum of History on Sunday.

The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at 470 W. Walnut Street. The City of Pasadena sponsors the celebration.

Families can try watercolor painting at the Pasadena Society of Artists’ hands-on studio. Participants can create custom frames for their artwork in the Art 2 Go Craft Workshop.

Blue Sky Face Painting will offer designs for children and adults. The Jazz Expedition will perform favorite tunes throughout the afternoon.

History buffs can take self-guided tours of the 1906 Fényes Mansion and Finnish Folk Art Museum. The Pasadena Society of Artists’ centennial exhibition “100 Years – 100 Images” will be open for viewing.

Interactive water toys from Pump and Splash will help visitors stay cool. Trivia contests and a scavenger hunt offer chances to win prizes.

The traditional cakewalk gives participants opportunities to win sweet treats. Photo opportunities include poses with Fantasy Carousel Figures.

Eva’s Sweet Shop will provide complimentary birthday cake and popcorn for all attendees.

The museum and city present the annual celebration as an artfully fun-fi lled afternoon designed to inspire creativity and showcase visual arts.

All activities are free and open to people of all ages.
