Organic grocery store Erewhon is opening a new store in Pasadena this September 13.
The upscale store, which offers a wide range of organic, locally-prodced and niche food products, including supplements, snacks, and beverages, is located at 475 S. Lake Ave., a site that was formerly Borders bookstore — a historic 41,760 square-foot building that has a basement, two retail floors and a roof deck.
The Pasadena store is Erewhon’s 10th location.
Yuval Chiprut, the chain’s Chief Development Officer, previously said that the company’s decision to expand to Pasadena was natural. He pointed to the community’s affluence and sophistication, saying the area had always been “on the map” for the high-end grocery store.
Last August 9, Erewhom hosted a job fair at the Pasadena location to accelerate the hiring process for all vacancies at its new store as well as other locations.
Erewhon’s Pasadena location will have an outdoor common area, an accessible rooftop and patios surrounding the building for shoppers to eat and hang out.
The majority of the second floor will be occupied by Brella, an innovative, app-enabled childcare center.
Aside from the grocery store, Erewhon also has a cafe and tonic bar that serves organic smoothies, specialty bowls, juices, tonics, shots, bone broths, coffee, and tea.
Following the grand opening, the store will host a Wellness Event on Saturday, September 16, from 12-4 p.m.
The event features complimentary tastings, live music, speakers, giveaways, and free samples from leading wellness brands.
Erewhon also offers a digital shopping experience through its new mobile app, which allows users to place orders for pickup or delivery.
