A fatal incident on the 134 Freeway just east of San Rafael Avenue early Sunday prompted extensive lane closures and an hours-long SigAlert, according to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs.
CHP first received reports at 12:59 a.m. that a woman was believed to be attempting to jump in front of vehicles on the freeway.
A caller told dispatchers they were trying to locate their mother-in-law, and at 1:03 a.m. the log noted the “mother in middle lane.”
By 1:06 a.m., officers reported a person down in the carpool lane and the Pasadena Fire Department was called to the scene.
Traffic was stopped, and a long flare pattern was set out for the car pool and three lanes.
At 1:21 a.m., CHP reported all lanes stopped just east of Orange Grove Boulevard. A SigAlert was requested for westbound 134 just east of San Rafael Avenue, affecting the HOV and three left lanes for an estimated two hours.
Subsequent reports indicated drivers traveling the wrong way on westbound 134 near Orange Grove as motorists tried to circle back and get off the freeway using an offramp.
At 4:07 a.m., CHP reported that all lanes had reopened.
No further information has been released by authorities.
