First United Methodist Church of Pasadena will host local activists on Sunday, March 22, for a conversation about faith-based grassroots organizing, according to an announcement from the church’s Church and Society Group.

The activists, who are involved with San Gabriel Foothills Indivisible, plan to discuss how the local chapter formed and how their Christian faith has informed their activism, according to the church’s press release. The speakers are members of All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, the announcement states.

The event comes as local Indivisible chapters have maintained a visible presence in Pasadena. San Gabriel Foothills Indivisible, a chapter serving foothill communities from Monrovia to Sunland-Tujunga, has held weekly “Save U.S. Saturdays” protests at Colorado Boulevard and Fair Oaks Avenue since January 24, according to previous Pasadena Now reporting.

FUMC Pasadena, established in 1874 at 500 E. Colorado Blvd. in the Playhouse District, has a documented history of hosting civic discussions.

Indivisible, the national organization behind local chapters, was founded in 2016 by former congressional staffers Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg. The organization states it is committed to nonviolent action, multiracial democracy, and a government accountable to the people, according to its website.

The March 22 event at FUMC falls six days before a planned nationwide Indivisible demonstration on March 28, according to La Crescenta-Montrose Today.

The conversation will take place in the Church Lounge. Parking is available on the corner of Green Street and Los Robles, behind the church, according to FUMC. The church can be reached at (626) 796-0157 or office@fumcpasadena.org.

“Come join us for this informative conversation!” the Church and Society Group said in the event announcement.
