Flags at Pasadena City Hall Fly at Half Staff in Honor of Queen Elizabeth

In honor of Queen Elizabeth, flags at City Hall will fly at half staff according to a tweet on the City’s website.

“In memory of #QueenElizabeth II, flags at City Hall will continue to fly at half-staff through sunset on the day of interment,” the tweet said.

Queen Elizabeth died on Thursday and her son Charles immediately ascended to the throne as King Charles III.

President Joe Biden ordered flags at all public ground to be lowered to half staff in the Queen’s honor.

“As a mark of respect for the memory of Queen Elizabeth II, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, on the day of interment,” said President Joe Biden in a statement. “I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.”

The flag will be raised quickly at sunrise, and lowered more slowly and ceremoniously at the end of the day. All accompanying flags will also be lowered to half mast.

The United States has no closer ally than the United Kingdom. Following the end of the American Revolution in 1783, the United Kingdom officially recognized American independence in 1783 following the American revolution. The nations established diplomatic relations in 1785.

“Michelle and I were lucky enough to come to know Her Majesty, and she meant a great deal to us,” said former Pasadena resident and US President Barack Obama.

“Back when we were just beginning to navigate life as President and First Lady, she welcomed us to the world stage with open arms and extraordinary generosity. Time and again, we were struck by her warmth,” they added.
