Retired State Senator Carol Liu has endorsed Phlunte Riddle for Assembly District 41 campaign.

“Dr. Riddle has demonstrated a commitment to our Democratic values. She will fight to protect reproductive rights and invest in educational and economic equity. I proudly endorse Phlunté as the San Gabriel Valley’s voice in the State Assembly,” stated former State Senator Carol Liu.

Assembly District 41 is located in eastern Los Angeles County and western San Bernardino County, including the San Gabriel Valley communities of Pasadena, Altadena, La Cañada Flintridge, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, San Dimas, La Verne, and Claremont and Inland Empire communities of Upland, Phelan, Lytle Creek, Rancho Cucamonga, Wrightwood, and Hesperia.

Assemblymember Chris Holden (D) has held this seat since 2012 and cannot seek re-election due to term limits. In 2022, he won the district with 60% of the vote.

Liu served in the California State Senate from 2008-2016 and the State Assembly from 2000-2006. She is a nationally recognized leader for advancing education policy and spearheaded the effort to expand higher education access and success for community college students.

“I am grateful for State Senator Carol Liu’s support for our Assembly campaign. I have admired her legislative work that helped improve education and created pathways of opportunities for San Gabriel Valley families. I look forward to carrying on this important work in the State Assembly,” said Riddle.

Riddle spent nearly 30 years serving Pasadena and honing her leadership skills at the Pasadena Police Department, moving through the ranks as a patrol officer, detective, and community liaison. She broke barriers when she became the first African American female sergeant, lieutenant, and then sworn Adjutant to the Chief of Police in the history of the Pasadena Police Department.

In 2019, Governor Gavin Newsom appointed her as a Board of Juvenile Discharge Hearings Commissioner with California’s Division of Juvenile Justice, which the California Senate confirmed with a 39-0 vote. She owns a consulting company, where she trains executives helping them to solve generational communications challenges within organizations.

Riddle served the Foothill communities as Assemblymember Chris Holden’s District Director. She helped him expand the College and Career Access Pathways program that allows high school students to take college and vocational training courses. Together, she and Assemblymember Holden pursued solutions that work for expanding the Gold Line, mental health services, public safety, and cleaner energy.

Riddle lives in District 4 with her husband Edgar. Together, they have three married sons and six amazing grandchildren.
