Garage Fire Contained, Knocked Down by County and City Crews

Not one but two fire departments rushed to a fully-involved garage fire which threatened two nearby homes early Thursday.

The 2:08 a.m. blaze in the northernmost portion Garfield Avenue in Pasadena, the 2000 block, was basically on city limits with Altadena, a city official reported.

Los Angeles County Fire Dept. units responded to two Altadena houses on Woodbury Road, while Pasadena Fire Department crews attacked the garage fire to the south with the help of County firefighters.

The blaze was quickly knocked down and did not spread to other structures.

Pasadena police provided traffic control. Both Southern California Gas and the Pasadena Water and Power Dept. were called to shut off utilities.

There were no injuries.

Although the exact cause of the blaze was not released, Pasadena spokesperson Lisa Derderian said “overpacked conditions enhanced the fuel for the fire. This is a safety reminder to not store numerous items in confined space that creates a significant hazard during a firefight.”
