Strong winds have begun and will continue through Wednesday, January 8. Winds are expected to range from 30–50 mph, with widespread gusts of 60–80 mph and isolated gusts up to 100 mph. Combined with dry conditions, these winds increase the risk of wildfires, downed trees, and power outages.
Key Updates:
• Event Cancellations: All events and activities at City-owned community and recreation centers are canceled today.
• Red Flag Warning: Critical fire weather conditions are in effect. Use caution with fire sources.
• Red Flag Parking Restrictions: Activated by Fire Chief Chad Augustin, these restrictions will remain in place through Wednesday afternoon, with possible extensions.
• Power Outages: Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) crews are working to restore outages caused by extreme winds.
• Bad Weather Shelter Activated: The Pasadena Bad Weather Shelter, operated by Friends In Deed, will open today, January 7th at 3:00 PM and remain open through Friday morning, January 10th. It is located at Trinity Lutheran Church, 997 E Walnut St, Pasadena, CA 91106.

• Work or stay home if possible to keep streets clear for emergency personnel.

• Report downed/fallen trees to the Pasadena City Service Center at (626) 744-7311. For emergencies, please call 911.
Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD):
• Schools remain open on a rainy-day schedule, with students kept indoors.
• LEARNs and some after-school programs will continue; however, families are encouraged to pick up children early.
• The City’s Afterschool Adventures Program (ASAP) is canceled for today.

High Wind Safety Tips:
1. Secure Outdoor Items: Bring in or secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and objects that may become airborne.

3. Stay Indoors: Avoid being outside near trees, power lines, or unstable structures during peak winds.
4. Have flashlights, batteries, and emergency supplies ready. Charge devices in advance.
5. Avoid Driving: High winds can make driving dangerous, especially for high-profile vehicles.
