A dangerous heat wave is forecast to hit Pasadena beginning Friday, with temperatures expected to climb near 99 degrees through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters said seasonably warm conditions Wednesday and Thursday will give way to extreme heat as high pressure builds over the region. Friday’s high is expected to reach 98 degrees, with Saturday peaking near 99 degrees. Overnight lows will rise into the upper 60s, offering little relief.
Wednesday’s forecast calls for patchy morning fog, clearing to sunny skies with a high near 91 degrees. Winds will remain light, shifting southwest at about 5 mph in the afternoon. Thursday will be sunny with a high near 93 degrees.
The heat wave is expected to push temperatures 10 degrees above normal, with conditions approaching record levels. The NWS warned of significant heat stress, particularly for residents without access to cooling. Increasing humidity later in the week could worsen the impacts.
No rain is forecast, but forecasters noted moisture aloft may limit overnight cooling. Winds will stay calm to light, providing little relief from the heat.
The weekend outlook calls for sunny skies and highs near 99 degrees Saturday and 98 degrees Sunday. Nights will remain warm, with lows in the upper 60s. A gradual cooling trend is expected to begin Monday, though highs will remain above normal at 96 to 97 degrees.
Pasadena’s urban environment may intensify the heat, with paved surfaces and limited shade contributing to higher temperatures. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
No advisories have been issued for Pasadena as of Wednesday morning, but NWS forecasters cautioned that heat warnings may be posted later this week if conditions worsen.
The extended forecast shows highs in the mid to upper 90s through Tuesday, with elevated humidity keeping nights warm. Forecasters said the heat wave will dominate the region into next week.
