Heat Wave to Push Pasadena Temperatures Up 10 Degrees

National Weather Service forecasts mid-week peak before weekend cooling

A heat wave will drive Pasadena temperatures from Monday’s comfortable 85 degrees to a peak of 97 degrees by Thursday, the National Weather Service said.

The warming trend begins Tuesday and peaks mid-week, with temperatures climbing 5 to 10 degrees above normal for early July, forecasters said.

Monday’s partly sunny conditions represent the last day of below-normal temperatures. An upper-level low pressure system off Northern California has provided cooling relief.

High pressure strengthening over Arizona and New Mexico will push into Southern California starting Tuesday. The system will bring sunny skies and an 8-degree temperature jump to 93 degrees.

Wednesday will see sunny, hot conditions with highs near 96 degrees. Thursday marks the heat wave’s peak at 97 degrees under continued sunny skies.

The National Weather Service designated much of Los Angeles County for Moderate HeatRisk Wednesday and Thursday. The classification indicates conditions that could affect heat-sensitive individuals.

“Moderate HeatRisk is expected for much of LA County, meaning that heat will affect sensitive individuals such as outdoor workers or those without air conditioning,” the weather service said.

Light winds throughout the week will provide minimal cooling relief. Morning calm conditions will transition to southwest breezes of 5 to 10 mph each afternoon.

The hot, dry conditions will elevate fire weather concerns across non-coastal areas, forecasters said.

Weekend relief arrives as the high pressure ridge weakens. Saturday’s high drops to 87 degrees with possible morning fog. Sunday will reach 86 degrees.

Forecasters note a small chance of thunderstorms Tuesday through Wednesday. Brief southeasterly flow may bring limited monsoonal moisture to mountain areas.

The temperature surge represents a 12-degree climb from Monday’s high. The warming trend affects inland valleys throughout Southern California.

Another warming trend may develop next week. Monsoonal moisture could arrive around July 16, bringing increased humidity and isolated thunderstorm chances.
