Huntington Health, an affiliate of Cedars-Sinai, broke ground Monday, Oct. 21, on a four-story medical pavilion in Pasadena, marking a significant expansion of cancer and specialty care services in the San Gabriel Valley region.

The 100,285-square-foot Terri and Jerry Kohl Medical Pavilion, located at 786 South Fair Oaks across from Huntington Hospital’s main campus, will combine Huntington’s reputation for compassionate, individualized care with Cedars-Sinai’s award-winning expertise.

“Today, we are thrilled to begin a new chapter in Huntington’s 130-year history of care for our community,” said Lori J. Morgan, President and CEO of Huntington Health. “The Kohl Medical Pavilion is a testament to our dedication to our community – we are here for you when you need us most with best-in-class medical care right here in the San Gabriel Valley.”

The facility will significantly enhance cancer care capabilities, housing consultation, exam and treatment rooms that will enable physicians to treat more cancer patients. It will include an expanded outpatient infusion center for chemotherapy and provide access to clinical trials through Cedars-Sinai Cancer.

“The ground you are standing on today will become the heart of cancer care in the San Gabriel Valley,” said Howard Kaufman, regional medical director of Huntington Cancer Center, an affiliate of Cedars-Sinai Cancer. “According to American Cancer Society, for the first time ever, more than two million people will be diagnosed with cancer this year alone.”

The pavilion will also accommodate cardiac, vascular, and thoracic care specialists. “Our patients will have access to these expert specialists in one convenient location, right in their own backyard — instead of having to travel far and wide,” Morgan added.

Features include four floors of medical care facilities, a testing lab, expansive terraces, and underground parking. The LEED-certified building’s design incorporated feedback from local neighborhood associations and is located near public transportation for easy access.

Local officials attending the groundbreaking included Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Mayor Victor Gordo, and Councilmember Jason Lyon. Lead donors Terri and Jerry Kohl were honored at the ceremony, along with early supporters Shelley Allen and Bob Kohorst. Huntington Hospital’s Chairman of the Board Paul Johnson and Board members were also present.

Construction is expected to be completed by late 2027.
