According to a Huntington Hospital spokesperson the hospital is working to secure lodging accommodations for healthcare workers closer to the hospital.

There are several major hotels in Pasadena. It is not known if any of them have been contacted by the hospital.

The lodgings would allow the workers to avoid long drives to and from work and help limit the chance of exposure for their families.

“Huntington Hospital is proud of its longstanding dedication to the health and well-being of our caregivers,” said Dorey Huston. “We have been working on lodging accommodations for the providers that are most impacted by COVID-19 for some days now, and will have a plan in place this week to offer lodging to those who are working with COVID-19 positive patients.”

Employees working in the hospital’s COVID-19 unit have been pushing for lodging options.

So far more than 4,000 people have signed a petition calling for lodging for the workers at the hospital.

“Frontline healthcare workers such as doctors, nurses, nurse’s assistants and respiratory therapists are working around the clock to treat coronavirus patients,” the petition reads. “Along with long hours, PPE shortages, and for some, a long commute home, these individuals are plagued with worries of exposing their families and loved ones at home. They need the support and help from the community to have a safe place to isolate after a long hospital shift to rest and regenerate.”

New York is currently offering free lodgings for medical workers at the Four Seasons Hotel and the Marriot.

“Many of those working in New York City have to travel long distances to and from their homes after putting in 18-hour days,” said Ty Warner in a written statement. “They need a place close to work where they can rest and regenerate. I heard Governor Cuomo’s call to action during one of his press conferences, and there was no other option for us but do whatever we could to help.”

South Pasadena’s Bissell House Bed & Breakfast has dedicated all seven rooms at the B&B and its amenities to safely house these doctors during the crisis at no cost.

“We are working closely with the Huntington Hospital leadership to ensure the safety of the property staff and the doctors themselves with specific protocols designed to ensure a comfortable stay for as long as they need,” said Bissell House owner Will Hoyman.
