In a surprising turn of events, Republican candidate Michelle Del Rosario Martinez emerged as the leader in the race for the 41st District Assembly seat representing Pasadena.

Martinez won 36.23% of the votes, surpassing her Democratic opponents in a competitive field.

Martinez’s closest rival, Pasadena resident and Democrat John Harabedian, received 31.68% of the votes, while fellow Democrats Phlunté Riddle, also a Pasadena resident, and Jed Leano garnered 17.34% and 14.75%, respectively.

The top two vote-getters will meet in a runoff election in November.
