It’s a Wrap at Crêpestudio

The Mediterranean

Wraps are all the rage. But really what is a wrap other than bread made into a different shape? What if you could take your favorite sandwich filling and put it into something fresh, light, tender and flakey? If that sounds good to you then you need to pay CRÊPEstudio , in Old Pasadena a visit.

At CRÊPEstudio, Sona Guloyan makes fresh crepes to order according to her Estonian grandmother’s recipe.

“Our crêpe is not the typical French crêpe. It’s more of sandwich… with pesto…and spice seeds … a completely different twist. It’s like having a sandwich with not so much bread and not so much fat!”

On my visit I decided to try two of Sona’s crêpes with a Mediterranean theme: The Hummus filled with your choice of beef or chicken (I chose beef), fresh Romaine lettuce, tomatoes and house-made hummus, and the Mediterranean, stuffed with grilled chicken, cucumbers, black olives, red onions, fresh Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, and crumbled feta cheese finished with house-made Tzatziki sauce. The verdict? May I have some more please? The crêpes were light, fresh and oh-so eatable.

The Hummus with beef

I made mine a meal with the addition of my choice of chips and soft drink.

Of course I had to try one of Sona’s many dessert crêpes. Since Sona is the self-proclaimed queen of Nutella most of her crêpes are made with it. But she does have substitutions if you are not a fan.

I chose two dessert crêpes: the Very Berry, filled with fresh strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream with a light layer of Nutella, and the Classic a la Mode made with Nutella, strawberries, bananas, whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. Not too heavy with plenty of fresh berries they’re a natural energy boost. These crêpes would make a great 3:00 p.m. pick-me-up with one of CRÊPEstudio’s Frêpe frozen coffee drinks.

Next time you’re wondering what to eat that’s full of flavor but light on calories think CRÊPEstudio.
