Actress and activist Jane Fonda is set to attend a birthday fundraiser for California State Senate candidate Sasha Renée Pérez in Pasadena on Sunday.

The event, scheduled for 3 p.m., marks a high-profile endorsement for Pérez’s campaign for the District 25 seat.

Pérez, a Democrat currently serving as Vice Mayor of Alhambra, faces Republican Elizabeth Wong Ahlers in the November 5 general election.

Both candidates advanced from the March 5 primary, where Ahlers secured 35.7% of the vote to Pérez’s 32.9%.

The fundraiser’s exact location will be disclosed to attendees upon RSVP, according to event organizers.

Those interested in participating can contact Mona Sanchez at mona.sanchez.ca@gmail.com or (818) 523-3753 for more information.

Pérez’s campaign focuses on progressive values, emphasizing education, housing, public safety, and climate action.

Her platform builds on past achievements, including securing $97 million for California students to expand college access and affordability.

As the youngest female Mayor in San Gabriel Valley history and the youngest Latina Mayor in California to lead a city of over 50,000 residents, Pérez has garnered significant attention.

She is also noted as the first openly bisexual Mayor in the United States.

The candidate’s background includes degrees in Political Science and Economics from California State University, Los Angeles.

Pérez comes from a union family, with her father working as an electrician and her mother as a social worker.

Pérez’s public service extends to her role as a commissioner for the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority and her participation in the California 100 Commission.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked on the HERO Pay Ordinance, increasing wages for essential workers.

Endorsements for Pérez’s campaign include Courage California, California Environmental Voters, and the California LGBTQ Legislative Caucus.

She has also received support from numerous local labor unions and elected officials.

Pérez has been recognized for her public service, earning the title of Congressional Woman of the Year from Congresswoman Judy Chu in 2022.

She was also named Active SGV’s Outstanding Elected Official in 2021.

The upcoming birthday fundraiser with Jane Fonda highlights Pérez’s growing profile in California politics.
