EGOT and 12-time Grammy Award winner John Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, are scheduled to join the Chewy Claus team today at Pasadena Humane to deliver gifts, treats and essentials to pets in the shelter’s care, including animals displaced by the January Eaton Fire.
The planned visit at Pasadena Humane’s Raymond Avenue campus will spotlight the shelter’s “Home for the Holidays” adoption campaign, which features waived adoption fees for all dogs over 40 pounds and all adult cats. The campaign will kick off Dec. 14, with Chewy donating care packages for adopted pets to bring home.
Legend and Teigen have a recent history of animal advocacy. On March 23, the couple adopted a rescue dog named Dudley. Dudley had been rescued during the January wildfires with severe pneumonia and spent 13 days in the hospital before adoption. Their pet food brand, Kismet, founded in 2024, directs proceeds to Project Street Vet and Paws for Life. During the fires, Kismet provided food to affected areas and directed support to Pasadena Humane.
Pasadena Humane, founded in 1903, served as the designated small animal evacuation center during the Eaton Fire. The shelter took in more than 600 animals for emergency boarding, recovered 123 strays from the fire zone, and extended its hold period to 21 days for displaced pets. Its Pet Food Pantry continues to provide free supplies daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and animals with burns and smoke inhalation have been treated in the shelter’s ICU.
Chewy Claus is a national holiday letter-writing campaign in which pets submit holiday wishes. For each letter, five meals are donated to shelter pets, with 10 meals donated through submissions via the Chewy app. In 2025, Chewy pledged $10 million in donations to shelters nationwide.
