Scholars from different parts of the world will be gathering in Hilton Pasadena for an international symposium by the Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies (JIS) titled “Interdisciplinary Studies: The Next 25 Years” on Aug. 2 to 3.
JIS, an international journal of interdisciplinary and interfaith dialogue which will be celebrating it 25th anniversary, will host the forum co-sponsored by the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research and the International Christian Studies Association.
Keynote speakers Margaret Boone Rappaport, an anthropologist and futurist from Tucson, and Christopher Corbally, SJ, of the Vatican Observatory and the University of Arizona, will be discussing the “Advanced Domains of Thought as a Wellspring of New Knowledge for Our Coming Global Society.”
There will be six panel sessions with different themes such as “Interdisciplinary Faith – Learning Integration,” “Designing Interdisciplinary Curricula,” “Comparative Interdisciplinary Social Research in China,” “Theo-Economic Political Nexus,” “Science, Civic Engagement and the Environment” and “Philosophy, Ethics and the Spiritual Quest.”
The panel speakers will be coming from different parts of the United States, as well as from Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, Nigeria, Canada and Spain.
Scholars from the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research, Wheaton College, Brooklyn College-CUNY, Colorado State University, University of Northern Colorado, California State University-Northridge, San Diego State University and San Diego State University with different fields of expertise such as Intellectual History, English or Interdisciplinary Studies, Business Management, Mathematics, Journalism, Sociology, Religious Studies and Physics will be the chairs and moderators of the panel discussions.
An alternative paper on “Transmedia and Media Literacy in Brazilian Public Schools†will also be discussed by Patricia Gallo of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.
