Just weeks, maybe even days, before a hot micro-climate summer, the Pasadena Department of Parks and Recreation kicked down the doors to the season with its annual “Family Fun Day“ at La Pintoresca Park, under cool, gray skies Saturday.
Children clambered aboard the structures in the recently renovated play area, and hopped through the also-new splash pad, while skaters successfully flipped their decks between railings in the new skateboard area.
Two video game trucks were parked along Raymond Avenue, attracting younger as well as older kids.
Hundreds of families enjoyed free hot dogs and ice cream as well, before and after visiting the dozen or so resource booths lining the park grounds.
District One Councilmember Tyron Hampton excitedly touted the summer opportunities in Pasadena’s parks, particularly La Pinteresca.
“This is a full-service park, where we have a library, and the only park that has a teen center,” he said. Hampton also noted the summer camp and day camp programs scheduled for the summer.
“This is the only park in the City of Pasadena with its own splash pad and skate park,” Hampton added, as he welcomed everyone to the day-long event. “It’s gonna be a great summer,” he said.
