Police are seeking a man who they say stole a cell phone from a Rite Aid in Pasadena’s Hastings Ranch neighborhood and brandished a knife at an employee who confronted him before fleeing on a bicycle.
The crime unfolded about 5:50 p.m. at the store, 3745 E. Foothill Blvd., according to Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Burgess.
A man entered the store and was immediately recognized by employees as having stolen merchandise in the past, the lieutenant said. Workers saw the man take a cell phone and try to leave the business with it.
A female employee in her 30s confronted the man about the theft, Burgess said. The man then brandished a knife at her before riding away on a bicycle.
He was initially described by police only as a white man in his 50s, riding a black mountain bike. The investigation, including checks of surveillance cameras, was ongoing.
No injuries were reported during the crime. The stolen phone was valued at about $30.
Anyone with information can reach the Pasadena Police Department at (626) 744-4501. Tips may also be submitted anonymously to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
