La Cañada Presbyterian Church 2012 Vacation Bible School Goes “Overboard!”

Published on Monday, July 30, 2012 | 5:17 pm

This summer, a record number of 235 children participated in La Cañada Presbyterian Church’s annual Vacation Bible School. Starting on July 16th, the children gathered each morning at the church for a week of games, Bible stories, crafts, science experiments, snacks and music.

This year, the children explored the deep sea during “Operation Overboard.” All of the activities highlighted the “Ocean Insight” for the day that emphasized depending on God. The daily Bible stories all related to water and helped the children understand what it means to follow Jesus. The children were also able to share with others in need by participating in a mission project. Over $1,400 was collected throughout the week to support the Schwind family who are currently serving on the Africa Mercy Ship. Mercy Ships provide medical care to places where access to care is very limited.

“VBS is one of my most favorite weeks of the year,” said Kristin Leucht, Associate Pastor of Family Ministry. “I love that we have the opportunity to teach Bible stories in fun and creative ways. Besides learning more about the Bible and faith, the children have a great time playing and making new friends.”

VBS is an important part of LCPC’s ministry to children. This year, over a hundred volunteers helped to make the fun events happen. Each year, LCPC’s VBS is growing with children who come from La Cañada, La Crescenta, Pasadena, and as far away as San Marino.

About La Cañada Presbyterian Church

La Cañada Presbyterian Church (LCPC) began in 1948 with 158 members and a vision to reach the world for Jesus Christ. That early church was built quite literally on faith and charity from remainder brick and an operating budget that turned just about all of its revenue into active ministry. Through 65 years of outreach, LCPC grew to 2,000 active attendees doing ministry throughout Southern California and in 40 countries around the world. In 2010 the church completed a campus expansion which doubled its physical base for ministry and kept its historical sanctuary as the heart of the new grounds.
