In an ongoing effort to support our neighbors in Altadena, LCPC Parent Education’s Erskine Compassion Memorial has donated $500 to Greenline Housing Foundation’s Eaton Fire Relief Fund: greenlinehousing.org/eaton-fire . Greenline is prioritizing support for communities that face the greatest barriers to rebuilding, particularly Black and Hispanic families, so that recovery can be more equitable for all. Nearly half of the homes destroyed in the Eaton Fire were owned by Black families even though Black residents comprise only 18% of the Altadena’s population. Greenline offers pathways to “Rebuild, Restore and Remain” through long-term temporary housing and rental assistance, land banking, and rebuilding assistance.
In addition to the $500 donated, LCPC Parent Education’s Erskine Compassion Memorial has also launched a $500 Match Challenge encouraging others to join this effort to help our friends and colleagues in Altadena retain their properties. If you would like to participate, go to www.greenlinehousing.org/give, select Wildfire Relief Fund, and dedicate your gift to the LCPC Parent Ed Challenge.
Thanks to everyone who has supported the $500 Challenge thus far: Randy and Anne Bierling, Chuck and Barbara Osburn, John and Kerry Cervenka, Mike and Lynette Davis, Doug and Natasha Wood, Ken White and Katrina Harbers, Rick and Lynne Graves, Julie and Jeremy Milbrodt, Matthew and Jennifer Kohorst, and Ashley and Brad Barrett.
To learn more, listen to the Good Faith Podcast with Curtis Chang as he interviews Jasmin Shupper, Founder and Executive Director of Greenline, about the challenges the Altadena community faces in recovering from the Eaton Fire and what Greenline is doing to help: https://overcast.fm/+AA1IlyyY-go. Parent Education Executive Director Anne Bierling explained: “After listening to Jasmin’s interview and also hearing all the personal stories from those whose lives were ravaged by the fire, we felt nudged by God to support GREENLINE which has become a LIFE-LINE for many of our cherished colleagues and friends who live and work in our community.”
To date, through their Eaton Fire Relief Fund, Greenline has helped 32 families find long-term temporary housing and awarded over $500,000 in rental assistance for an average of over $20,000 per family. Greenline has also invested over $1 million back into the Altadena community by purchasing properties and land banking them to keep them out of the hands of speculative investors and developers. And recently, Greenline awarded its first two rebuilding assistance grants totaling $377,000 to help close the rebuilding gaps that many face.
Jasmin added: “The reality is the scale and magnitude of rebuilding, restoring, and remaining in Altadena will require institutions and individuals alike to participate. It will truly take all of us.” To learn more, go to greenlinehousing.org/eaton-fire.
