Labor Day: What’s Open and Closed in Pasadena on Sept. 7

Most government offices, banks, schools and libraries in Pasadena will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day, but police and fire crews will remain fully staffed, every park will stay open and trash collection will run one day behind.

Government and municipal services

City Hall and many city services will be closed.

The City Service Center will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, and will resume regular hours Tuesday, Sept. 8. The City Service Center can be reached Tuesday through Friday this week, during business hours at (626) 744-7311.

The Municipal Services Payment Center, Parking Office and Permit Center will also be closed, though many services will be available via Permit Center Online, including subtrade permits and plan submittals for new construction, tenant improvements, accessory dwelling units and additions.

Pasadena Water and Power’s regular customer call center will be closed, but customers can access their accounts and pay bills online at PWPweb.com or by calling (626) 744-4005. For power emergencies, call (626) 744-4673. For water emergencies, call (626) 744-4138.

The City Council will not meet Monday, but it will meet in a special closed door session on Tuesday, Sept. 8 (See agenda here.) The council will start a new pilot program of regular Tuesday meetings beginning Sept. 15 and 22. A new agenda is posted by 6 p.m. on the Thursday preceding each meeting.

Federal, state and Los Angeles County offices will be closed, along with the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, and the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Transportation and parking

Pasadena Transit Route 33 will operate on its Sunday schedule instead of its regular weekday schedule. All other Pasadena Transit routes and Pasadena Dial-A-Ride will not operate Monday, and normal service resumes Tuesday, Sept. 8. Route 33 is the only route that runs on Labor Day and the other holidays when Pasadena Transit suspends service.

Metro buses and trains will run their Saturday, Sunday and holiday schedule. Metrolink will operate a weekend schedule and offer a $10 SoCal Day Pass good for unlimited systemwide rides on the day it is bought. The Riverside Line will not run.

All parking meters not posted as “No Parking” will be free and time limits will not be enforced. Violations for overnight parking, red curb parking, “No Parking” zones and blocking fire hydrants will continue to be enforced.

Postal and package services

All Post Office locations will be closed and there will be no mail delivery. Regular mail delivery and retail service resume Tuesday, Sept. 8. Customers can still use usps.com to order stamps and free boxes and to reach Hold Mail, Change of Address, PO Box rental and Click-N-Ship, and self-service kiosks are available in select lobbies.

UPS will not pick up or deliver packages, and UPS Store locations are closed. FedEx U.S. and international package and express freight services will be closed. FedEx Office locations may keep modified hours depending on location, and FedEx Custom Critical will operate.

Financial services

Banks will be closed. The Federal Reserve lists Sept. 7 as a holiday for its banks and its Board of Governors. The New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq Stock Market will be closed, as will bond markets, with trading resuming Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time.

Schools and libraries

Pasadena Unified School District’s official 2026-2027 calendar lists Monday as the Labor Day holiday, with no school for students or staff.

Pasadena City College will hold no classes and its campus will be closed. ArtCenter College of Design will also be closed.

All Pasadena Public Libraries will be closed Sunday and Monday, Sept. 6 and 7, and will return to regular schedules Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Recreation and waste services

All recreation and community centers operated by the city’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department will be closed, but all parks will be open. No site reservations are accepted for the holiday.

Trash and recycling services will be postponed by one day. Monday pickup will occur Tuesday, Tuesday pickup on Wednesday, Wednesday pickup on Thursday, Thursday pickup on Friday and Friday pickup on Saturday. There will be no bulky item pickups Saturday or Monday.

Retail and business

Target and Walmart stores plan to keep regular hours, and Costco warehouses will be closed. Many restaurants will be open, some on modified hours. Shoppers should confirm hours with individual stores.
