A group of local conservatives including members of the Pasadena Republican Club are planning to rally in South Pasadena on Sunday in support of the reelection of President Donald Trump and in support of police, organizers said.
The “Freedom Rally” is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. at Fair Oaks Avenue and Mission Street, according to Matthew Bryant, who is one of the organizers.
“I’m reaching out to any Republicans, any conservatives who want to go to a rally in support of America, in support of the police and in support of President Trump,” according to Bryant, who said he did not represent any formal organization. “We’re just reaching out to like-minded people who support those three aspects of the rally.”
“For a lot of us, we feel that a lot is riding on this election,” he said. “It’s not like the old days, where you have the Democrats and Republicans and they all had kind of the same goal, but they had different ways of getting there. Now, I think what we’re seeing with the current Democratic party, we have completely different goals, diametrically opposite goals.”
A flier advertising the event urged participants to remain respectful and obey traffic laws.
“We’re just there to be positive,” Bryant said. In addition to voicing support for the President, the group also wanted to show solidarity with law enforcement.
“A lot of people have called for defunding the police, re-imagining the police,” he said. “We want to give the police a hundred percent of our support… They have a very difficult job to do, and they’ve been attacked on all sides and we want to support them for sure.”
