The ACLU Southern California Pasadena/Foothills Chapter is hosting a forum titled “Is Contraception Next?” on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. The event will take place at the Pasadena Friends Meeting House, located at 520 E. Orange Grove Blvd. in Pasadena.
Organizers aim to address concerns about potential threats to contraception rights in the wake of recent efforts to restrict abortion access. The forum will explore the broader implications of these developments for women’s healthcare and reproductive rights.
The event will address the question: “What will current efforts to end safe, legal abortion mean for all other women’s rights?” Several speakers are scheduled to participate in the discussion, including Rev. Mike Kinman, former Rector of All Saints Church Pasadena, and Norma Rodriguez from Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley.
Additional speakers include Gabrielle Brown from Black Women for Wellness, Tania Verafield, an ACLU Pasadena/Foothills board member and actor, and Iaira Venanzi, who will serve as moderator.
The forum’s title echoes a statement made by Vice President Kamala Harris, who warned in her acceptance speech that “Birth control is on the hit list” following recent challenges to abortion rights.
The forum is co-sponsored by the ACLU Pasadena/Foothills Chapter, NAACP Pasadena, Planned Parenthood Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley, and LA Progressive. These organizations have joined forces to raise awareness about the potential ramifications of current abortion legislation on other aspects of women’s rights.
