Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley announced its endorsement for local City Council and Pasadena City College races on Monday.

The group is supporting Brandon Lamar, Jess Rivas and Jason Lyon in local City Council elections that will determine councilmembers in districts 3, 5 and 7.

Lyon also received District 6 councilmember Steve Madison’s endorsement on Monday.

In the races that will decide trustees at Pasadena City College, the group is endorsing Sandra Chen Lau in the Area 1 race, Linda Wah in Area 5 and Alton Wang in Area 7.

“PP Advocates is thrilled to endorse these qualified candidates to champion the values and priorities PP Advocates is committed to. In light of the ongoing attacks on sexual and reproductive freedom we see occurring in states across the country, electing representatives who are ready to fight alongside PP Advocates is critical to keeping all San Gabriel Valley communities healthy and safe,” said Juliana Serrano, Executive Director of PP Advocates.

The group is an advocacy and political organization working to protect and expand access to reproductive health care and sex education throughout the San Gabriel Valley.

The group called the candidates that received the endorsement “a powerful group of candidates running for state office, city councils, and community college board of trustees in the Pasadena and Glendale communities for the upcoming June Primary Election.”

“As threats to sexual and reproductive freedom escalate in states across the nation and as the US Supreme Court appears ready to overturn Roe v. Wade this coming June — it is imperative that our state and local leaders are committed to ensuring that the communities they serve continue to have unfettered access to health care,” the group said in a released statement on Monday. “All of the candidates on this slate are ready to champion laws and policies that protect and expand access to reproductive health care and uphold every person’s right to bodily autonomy and self-determination.”
