The free volunteer event from 9 to 11 a.m. invites participants to engage in hands-on gardening activities to help maintain the 150-acre botanical garden known for its seasonal floral displays and diverse plant collections.
A statement by Descanso Gardens said Community Service Days are vital to keeping Descanso thriving.
“Volunteers become an extension of our horticultural team for the day,” the statement posted on the Gardens’ website said.
Participants will assist with essential garden maintenance tasks that may include mulching, planting, weeding, and other seasonal garden care needs. Garden staff will provide instruction, making the event accessible to gardeners of all experience levels.
The program is open to individuals ages 16 and older who are able to meet the physical demands of gardening work, which includes lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Volunteers are advised to bring gardening gloves and water, and to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.
While registration for this particular event has closed, Descanso Gardens regularly hosts similar volunteer opportunities throughout the year, giving community members multiple chances to contribute to the preservation of this historic landscape.
The gardens, established in 1953, contain specialized collections of camellias, oak woodlands, and a Japanese garden among other botanical attractions that draw visitors from across the region.
