Pasadena Mayor Victor M. Gordo has announced the formation of a Mayor’s Budget Advisory Working Group to proactively evaluate the city’s financial condition and develop recommendations aimed at long-term fiscal sustainability.
The working group is scheduled to begin meeting Jan. 14 and will meet weekly, with the goal of completing its work by the end of March.
Additional details about the timeline and reporting process will be released as the effort moves forward.
“As we face economic headwinds, the best way forward is to act early and act together,” Gordo said in announcing the initiative, adding that the group is intended to bring together city employees and residents to help develop creative and responsible approaches to sustaining public services.
Former Mayor Terry Tornek has been asked to chair the working group, which will include city staff, labor representatives and residents. Officials stressed that the body is not a formal City Council committee but a hands-on advisory group that will provide the mayor and council with a report outlining concepts and strategies for consideration.
According to the announcement, the group’s mission is to evaluate Pasadena’s financial condition and offer informed, equitable and data-driven recommendations.
Areas of focus will include potential revenue enhancements, expenditure efficiencies or realignments, and possible structural changes to city operations, all aimed at maintaining a balanced budget aligned with community priorities.
“This effort is about planning ahead rather than reacting later,” Gordo said, adding that early collaboration could help the city navigate challenges and protect public services.
