Side Street Projects is bringing woodworking education directly to schools and community events through fully equipped mobile classrooms housed in renovated buses and trailers.
The program targets children ages 5 and older. Each classroom features individual adjustable workbenches with hand tools, supplies and materials.
Students learn creative problem-solving while mastering safe, effective tool use. The goal is independent work without adult assistance.
Side Street Projects designed the mobile units to travel to schools, museums, community centers and private events. Each rental includes two trained teaching artists and all necessary materials.
The organization serves up to 25 students at a time. Base pricing starts at $500 per hour with a two-hour minimum, plus mileage costs.
Private rentals are available for birthday parties, group workshops and ongoing series. Schools can book in-school curriculum sessions or after-school programming.
The organization recommends at least six sessions for school programs. This allows students to maximize their learning experience.
Each of the 15 workstations comes equipped with hand tools. Students create projects to take home using pine wood, hardware and safety equipment.
Side Street Projects offers grant assistance for organizations unable to afford the base rate. Program Coordinator Madeline Aubry can be reached at madeline@sidestreet.org or (626) 798-7774.
The organization also operates woodworking classes at its Pasadena headquarters. These include after-school programs and seasonal intensives.
