Two incumbents have qualified to appear on the ballot for the June election after submitting nomination paperwork to the City Clerk’s Office.
District 7 Councilmember Jason Lyon and Vice Mayor Jess Rivas have both turned in the required candidacy documents to City Clerk Mark Jomsky and paid all necessary filing fees.
Candidates seeking local office in Pasadena must collect signatures from registered voters within their District before filing nomination paperwork with the City Clerk’s Office. Prospective candidates must also be registered voters residing within the District when nomination documents are issued. Those who want to include a candidate statement in the sample ballot booklet must submit a $750 deposit.
Additional candidates are also exploring the race. Councilmember Justin Jones has pulled nomination papers to seek reelection in District 3, while Alexandra Annala and Erica Margarita Munoz have also pulled papers to challenge him.
In District 7, Chas Schlaack and Alethea O’Toole have pulled papers to challenge Lyon. Meanwhile, Christine Rodriguez has received the required paperwork to challenge Rivas.
None of the potential challengers have turned in paperwork to the City Clerk’s Office.
Nomination documents must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office by 5 p.m. Friday, March 6.
The upcoming contest will mark Pasadena’s first municipal election since the Eaton Fire. In response, the City Clerk’s Office has added information for displaced voters to the City’s elections webpage and issued updated guidance for candidates.
Residents interested in running for office can obtain nomination papers by appointment through the City Clerk’s Office by phone or email. Voter registration services are available at City Hall, local libraries, post offices and through the state’s online registration portal.
