Music industry figures Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young are proposing a partnership with John Muir High School that could help transform the Pasadena campus into an early college magnet program, according to documents released ahead of Thursday’s Pasadena Unified School District Board meeting.
Iovine is a legendary music executive, producer, and entrepreneur. He began his career as a recording engineer for artists like John Lennon and Bruce Springsteen, then became a sought-after producer for acts such as Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, U2, Patti Smith, and Stevie Nicks.
Andre “Dr. Dre” Young is a groundbreaking hip-hop artist, producer, and entrepreneur. He rose to fame as a member of N.W.A., pioneering the gangsta rap genre and the West Coast G-funk sound48. Dr. Dre co-founded Death Row Records and later Aftermath Entertainment, producing seminal albums like The Chronic and discovering talent such as Eminem and Snoop Dogg48.

The Board will conduct public hearings on three critical District matters: the 2025-2026 budget, the annual Local Control and Accountability Plan that guides educational priorities, and a material revision request from Odyssey Charter School-South.
Superintendent Elizabeth J. Blanco will present the District’s fiscal stabilization strategy alongside the proposed budget. The Board will also hear a presentation celebrating the District’s progress during the 2024-2025 school year.
Among other business items, the Board will consider extensive contract approvals including technology equipment purchases, food service agreements, security patrol services, and healthcare staffing services. The consent agenda includes personnel assignments and approvals of tentative agreements with both the United Teachers of Pasadena and Teamsters unions.
Educational partnerships on the agenda include renewing agreements with Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and continuing collaboration with Pacific Oaks College to enhance development opportunities for early childhood teachers.
The meeting begins with a closed session at 4:05 p.m. to discuss labor negotiations involving the District’s top four positions and anticipated litigation involving six cases with significant exposure to the District.
