The NAACP Pasadena Executive Board will hold a town hall meeting with City Manager Steve Mermell focusing on the city’s annual budget process.
The virtual town hall meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 1.
The town hall is a part of a series of meetings to educate and further community engagement among local residents, according to a statement released by the NAACP.
“Ensuring that the community is educated about processes that impact their overall well-being is a key factor in closing the economic gap and encouraging civic engagement,” said Allen Edson, president of NAACP Pasadena.
“This is a process that happens annually and all residents should be actively involved,” Edson said.
Last year, the City Council adopted an $877.8 million budget, which included the city’s $269.6 million General Fund. The General Fund provides money for basic city services, including public safety, public works, and parks and recreation, according to the city’s website.
The city charter mandates a preliminary budget be submitted by the city manager to the City Council before the third Monday in May.
Typically, it takes multiple meetings and presentations from city departments before the budget is passed.
The town hall can be viewed on the Arroyo Channel and Zoom. The Zoom meeting ID is 977 0778 2381. The call-in number (669) 900 9128.
