NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena has awarded New Mexico-based Fiore Industries Inc. a 10-year contract to provide campuswide security and fire protection services.
The New Mexico Economic Development Department said the contract comes after Fiore gained experience with smaller contractual work at NASA’s White Sands Missile Range in the state, as well as in Spaceport America, according to a report by Albuquerque TV station KRQE. Spaceport Ameria is an FAA-licensed spaceport located on 18,000 acres of state trust land in the Jornada del Muerto desert basin in New Mexico, directly west of and adjacent to White Sands Missile Range.
A company statement said Fiore Industries Inc. will be expanding its number of employees from 140 to 200 following the JPL contract transition on Oct. 1.
Another report by the Albuquerque Journal said the contract is worth about $130 million. It’s now Fiore Industries Inc.’s largest contract since launching in 1989, the report said.
The New Mexico EDD said many of Fiore’s operations and support positions will remain in Albuquerque, with about 30 employees located at Spaceport America as part of the company’s requirements for security and protection services.
Bill Miera, founder and CEO of Fiore Industries, told KRQE the JPL contract will mean more high-paying jobs coming to New Mexico. Under the contract, the company plans to hire about 60 more people, including dispatchers, guards, and firefighters.
Most of the new people will be based in Pasadena. New Mexico-based employees will provide support services.
Fiore Industries. Inc. was founded in 1989 as a global aerospace and defense provider. It also provides turnkey mission support ranging from engineering and technology solutions to base operations, security and protective services, and support services.
New Mexico EDD Secretary Alicia J. Keyes said Fiore’s achievement reflects the state’s aerospace industry’s growing national reputation. She added the company’s track record at Spaceport America was key to its competitive position with JPL.
