According to the leasing agency handling the property, there is not yet a new tenant for the Lake Avenue building that housed Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles.
On Sunday, the popular restaurant chain closed its doors at the location on Sunday.
“We just started our leasing efforts,” Vanessa Zhang of the Beta Agency, which is handling the property, told Pasadena Now in an email on Tuesday.
Although no reason was given, the restaurant is located next door to KFC and Chick-Fil-A recently opened a branch nearby.
The chain has faced its share of challenges. In 2016, it filed for bankruptcy. According to its website, the restaurant was founded by Harlem native Herb Hudson in 1975. The restaurant became a favorite of Black celebrities. In 2023, a location on Pico Boulevard was moved several blocks away to a bigger location.
According to a sign posted outside of the restaurant last week, owners are looking for an “upgraded” Pasadena location.
