Nonprofit Friends In Deed Receives $10,000 Grant As Community Needs Surge

Friends In Deed, a 130-year-old nonprofit serving Pasadena’s vulnerable communities, said it has received a $10,000 operational grant from the SeaFlo Foundation amid growing local need.

In its recent announcement, Friends In Deed reports growing numbers of those struggling with food insecurity, housing instability and homelessness in their community in recent years.

The grant comes from the SeaFlo Foundation, established in 2019 by the Seager Family to spur neighborhood revitalization through youth development and education support for underserved, low-income Los Angeles County residents.

“We are committed to providing compassion, connection, and dignity for clients experiencing times in their lives when they need assistance most,” said Rabbi Joshua Levine Grater, the organization’s executive director.

Founded in 1894, Friends In Deed operates a food pantry serving over 600 households weekly, reaching approximately 1,225 individuals through its distribution program.

The organization’s comprehensive services include The Women’s Room, a day shelter for homeless and at-risk women, a Bad Weather Shelter providing warm meals during winter months, and Street Outreach and Housing services.

Their Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance program provides emergency rent, case management, and rental assistance resources to approximately 280 households each year.
