Vision To Learn, a 10-year-old nonprofit organization that provides vision screenings, eye exams, and glasses to low-income communities at no cost to the child or their family, recently visited the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena to assess the children’s vision. Their brightly colored vans that are outfitted like an optometrist’s office were parked at Pasadena Clubhouses, taking in children all day long to find the ones who were in need of further examination and possibly glasses.

Of the more than 250 children who were assessed, close to 70 of them will receive glasses.

When Vision To Learn founder, Austin Beutner realized that children in his community were going to school without the glasses they needed, he couldn’t believe it. Since its founding, Vision To Learn has visited close to 5,000 schools as well as Boys & Girls Clubs to provide more than two million children with vision care and almost 350,000 of them with glasses.

“We love and value our partnership with Vision To Learn, as it is providing assessments and glasses to our kids, some of whom had no idea they needed them,” said Lisa Cavelier, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena.  “To see a child wearing glasses for the first time and seeing the world in a whole new way is really wonderful, not to mention how it can impact their school work and so much more!”

Since 1937, the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena has enriched the lives of young people in our community, enabling them to reach their full potential as productive, caring, healthy, and responsible citizens. Serving more than 2,000 youth, ages 5 – 18 annually, BGCP focuses on Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyle, and Good Character and Leadership.

The Club operates two main Clubhouse locations in Pasadena: Slavik Branch on E. Del Mar Blvd., and Mackenzie-Scott Branch on N. Fair Oaks Avenue; and two school-site Clubhouses on the Odyssey Charter Schools campuses in Pasadena and Altadena. www.bgcpasadena.org
