The undefeated Oregon Ducks will compete in the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential on January 1, 2025, at the Rose Bowl Stadium, marking their ninth appearance in The Granddaddy of Them All. As the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed, Oregon enters the playoffs after capturing the Big Ten Championship in their inaugural season in the conference.
“We look forward to hosting the first-ever College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl Game,” said Pasadena Tournament of Roses President Ed Morales. “We are excited to welcome Oregon back to Pasadena for The Granddaddy of Them All and we are eager to see who they will play on New Year’s Day.”
The Ducks secured their playoff berth with a 45-38 victory over Penn State in the Big Ten Championship, completing a perfect 13-0 season with a 9-0 conference record. As the only Football Bowl Subdivision team to finish undefeated, Oregon brings an all-time bowl record of 17-20 to the tournament.
Their quarterfinal opponent will be determined by a first-round matchup between No. 8 seed Ohio State and No. 9 seed Tennessee, scheduled for December 21 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT in Columbus, Ohio. Both potential opponents finished their regular seasons with identical 10-2 records. Ohio State posted a 6-2 mark in the Big Ten and finished ranked No. 6 in the College Football Playoff rankings, while Tennessee went 6-2 in Southeastern Conference play and ended at No. 7 in the rankings. The programs have met just once previously, with Tennessee winning the 1996 Florida Citrus Bowl 20-14.
Oregon brings an impressive Rose Bowl history to this year’s game, having won their last three appearances for an overall 4-4 record in the tournament. Pre-game festivities begin at 1 p.m. PT/4 p.m. ET on New Year’s Day, and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
