A comprehensive report on recent maintenance and improvement projects across Pasadena’s parks system will be presented to the Recreation and Parks Commission at the Commission’s December 3 meeting.
Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director Koko Panossian is scheduled to present a Parks Maintenance report covering the October through November 2024 period, detailing projects including a memorial bench installation, court resurfacing, and landscape renovations at multiple locations across the City’s 22 dedicated multi-purpose sports fields.
At Washington Park, contractors completed a full resurfacing of tennis, basketball, and handball courts, making necessary repairs to cracks and uneven surfaces. The work included specialized coatings designed for each sport type, ensuring durability, proper drainage, and optimal playability.
Through The One Arroyo Foundation, crews completed the backfilling of the Arroyo Stone border along the natural hiking trail system connecting South Pasadena to Devils Gate Dam. At Hahamongna Watershed Park, staff addressed weather—and drought-related challenges through comprehensive turf renovation, including aerification, overseeding, and irrigation system calibration.
The report also details the installation of a memorial bench honoring Elsa Martin Vasquez, who volunteered hundreds of hours with Amnesty International and served as a core member of the Movement for the Emancipation of Chilean Women-Los Angeles.
Additional completed projects include:
- New concrete pad and walkway for picnic tables at Eaton Blanche Park
- Grounds renovation at the historic Gamble House
- Replanting of the Arroyo Parkway median with drought-tolerant vegetation following damage from recent heat waves and illegal pedestrian crossings
