A Pasadena-based artificial intelligence company has unveiled a new generative AI toolkit designed specifically for defense applications, marking what officials say is a significant departure from generic AI solutions currently deployed in military environments.
Virtualitics announced Thursday the launch of its Generative AI Toolkit, which serves as the foundation for developing specialized AI agents focused on defense readiness, sustainment and logistics operations. The toolkit is integrated into the company’s existing AI platform and aims to accelerate decision-making processes across Department of Defense workflows.
The development represents a targeted approach to military AI applications, according to company executives who emphasized the distinction between their mission-specific tools and broader commercial AI platforms.
“We’re not just dropping generic LLMs into defense environments,” said Rob Bocek, chief revenue officer at Virtualitics. “We’re engineering solutions from the front lines back, meeting operators where they are and helping them move faster with confidence.”
The toolkit includes several key components designed for secure deployment in defense settings. These include retrieval-augmented generation capabilities that connect trusted data sources to AI models, containerized large language models deployable on approved systems, and developer interfaces for integration into existing applications.
Among the specialized features is Readiness Sigma, a domain-focused summarization tool that processes large volumes of defense-specific reports to extract critical insights quickly.
Dr. Sagar Indurkhya, chief scientist at Virtualitics, said the company’s approach prioritizes operational requirements over technical capabilities alone.
“At Virtualitics, we’ve taken a fundamentally different approach to generative AI, one that starts with the mission, not just the model,” Indurkhya said. “Our Generative AI Toolkit was purpose-built to ensure the AI agents we develop are operationally grounded, secure, and explainable.”
The company plans to deploy its first AI agents powered by the new toolkit this summer, beginning with applications in predictive maintenance and material forecasting. These agents will operate within existing defense applications while maintaining human oversight in decision-making processes.
Virtualitics has established itself in the defense AI sector through previous contracts with military branches. The company achieved four Phase III Small Business Innovation Research production contracts last year, working with the U.S. Air Force, Space Force and other government agencies on applications including Integrated Readiness Optimization for sustainment and logistics support.
Founded on research from the California Institute of Technology, Virtualitics focuses on delivering AI applications with built-in explainability and visualization capabilities for government and enterprise clients. The company positions itself as “the Mission AI Company” and emphasizes operational-grade AI solutions designed for mission-critical environments.
The GenAI Toolkit launch comes as defense agencies continue expanding their use of artificial intelligence across various operational domains, from logistics planning to maintenance scheduling and resource allocation.
